After giving way to a lot of speculations and rumours, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has finally announced his next project titled Gangubai Kathiawadi roping in Alia Bhatt essaying the lead role in the film. The film is believed to be a biopic on the life of Gangubai Kothewali, the Madame of Kamathipura, who was forced into prostitution at a tender age which led her to become the most influential pimp in the town with clients having criminal records.
The news of Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt starrer Inshallah being shelved came as a huge blow to the Bollywood buffs. The film would have brought together Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Salman Khan after 10 long years post their grand film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam released in 1999. The fallout is said to have happened due to the creative differences between Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Salman Khan. However, the director decided to bring Alia on board to play the titular role Gangubai Kathiawadi and announced the release date of the film as September 11, 2020.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to direct films with extravagant characters, grandeur sets and royal clothes. After Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmavat, the director has raised the bar for himself. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has directed three hits in a row and we can’t wait to see his new venture where Alia Bhatt starring in an unconventional role such as Gangubai Kathiawadi.
