Air Commodore CK Kumar said, “300 people, including women and children trapped in the floods, were evacuated from the helicopters deployed by Southwest Air Command (SWAC) in late July and early August to safer places. We deployed our helicopters and aircraft at nodal points like Pune, Mumbai, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar. ‘
He told at the SWAC headquarters here, ‘Our helicopters took about 77 flights. We dropped around 23 thousand kg food packets. Using their planes and helicopters, the army, navy, NDRF and SDRF relief teams took about 200 to the spot. The entire South Western region of the country (from southern Rajasthan to Goa) comes under the air safety net of SWAC.
