Ahmedabad: Civil hospital doctors remove mucous cyst from infant.A team of doctors from Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, recently removed a mucous cyst from a two-day-old infant, who was facing problems of breathing and feeding. Doctors said that such cases are observed in about 2-3 persons out of 1,000, however, it is rarely seen in new-borns.
The baby was referred to Civil Hospital – Asarwa and was admitted in the department of Pediatric Surgery and diagnosed as having a mucous cyst. The parents were relieved and overjoyed to see their daughter feeding normally and breathing well when she was discharged, said Dr Joshi. It rarely presents at birth, but when it does, usually causes feeding and breathing difficulties.
