Mumbai:As part of ‘Joy of Giving Week’ organized by Western Railway (WR), around 150 students of Ryan Group of Institutions (RGI) planted more than 350 Ashoka saplings near Jogeshwari station here. An official gave this information on Saturday.
As part of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the children organized saplings along with favorite cartoon character, Nikatoon ‘Dora the Explorer’ and child artist Abhishek Sharma, at an event organized by WR, Nickelodeon and RGI.
WR chief spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar said, “WR is constantly engaged in environmentally friendly initiatives. But we have partnered with school children for the first time in Mumbai for the ‘Har Ek Tree, Kare Pollution Free’ project.”
In addition, during the week, there will be more activities for children focusing on environmental awareness and conservation, informing them about the results of carbon footprints and related aspects.
Anjali Bowen, principal of RGI Kandivali School, said the activity made school children realize their social responsibilities, encouraging them to take interest in environmental protection and improvement.
