Mayawati has now played the Muslim card by aligning with Samajwadi Party and after seeing the result of defeat, making Munkad Ali the state president.

Mayawati has announced the appointment of former MP Munkad Ali as state president to improve her tarnished image in UP amidst the announcement of not supporting any party before the upcoming UP assembly by-election. Some parties believe that the BSP supremo has played this bet to get hold of such Muslim voters. BSP chief Mayawati has reposed her faith in a Muslim leader of a western Uttar Pradesh for the first time.

Munkad Ali will try to connect the Muslims with the BSP. In the last election, the BSP could not get the benefit of Muslim votes despite having aligned with the SP. The BSP is trying to get hold of the Dalit-Muslim agenda. Experts believe that by handing over the command of the state organization to Meerut resident Munkad Ali, Mayawati has tried to strengthen the BSP in western Uttar Pradesh.
