There is a demand for reopening of the closed road of Harijan Colony. Security personnel are holding the position by placing barricades on the road. It is known that due to the violent incidents of last year in Harijan Colony on 31 May, security forces had put up barricades to stop the movement of vehicles. Gurjit Singh, secretary of Harijan Panchayat Samiti, said that there is a need to reopen the road for vehicular traffic.
He said how long will we live like isolation? Except heavy vehicles such as buses, other vehicles should be allowed to pass through the area. The area has been closed for the last 14 months and security personnel are guarding both entry and exit points. Due to which more than 40 shops are closed, many residents have also been affected.
Singh said the shops had not been opened yet, affecting local trade considerably. He said that the situation is normal now and there should be no reason to keep the area sealed. He also said that the government can open the way for vehicles to be moved on a trial basis and if they face any problem, they can stop it again.
